Where can I get a second opinion on a dental implant or gum treatment plan?
Brooklyn Periodontics provides independent second opinions on periodontal and implant treatment plans. You bring the plan, the images, and the quote you were given. We examine you, take our own 3D imaging where it helps, and tell you what we see, including when the original plan was correct. You keep your own dentist either way, and you are under no obligation to be treated here.
General dentists and other specialists send us their complex and revision cases, which is the same expertise a second opinion draws on.
When a second opinion is worth getting
A large full-arch or multi-implant quote
Full-arch treatment is a significant decision. It is reasonable to have the diagnosis and the number of implants reviewed independently before committing.
A plan to extract several teeth
Teeth described as hopeless are sometimes treatable with periodontal therapy or grafting. Before multiple teeth come out, it is worth a second look.
An implant that is failing
If you have been told an implant must be removed, we can tell you whether it can be treated and kept instead.
A graft that did not take
Failed grafting has causes, and identifying the cause changes whether repeating it will work.
A diagnosis that does not match your symptoms
If what you were told does not fit what you are experiencing, an independent exam with fresh measurements usually resolves it.
You simply want to understand it
A plan you do not understand is a plan you cannot consent to properly. Sometimes a second opinion is just a clearer explanation of the same treatment.

What to bring
The written treatment plan and quote if you have them, and any radiographs or scans. If you do not have them, come anyway. We can evaluate you with our own imaging.

An independent exam
Full periodontal charting, in-office 3D imaging where the bone level matters, and our own read on the tissue, the bite, and any existing restorations.

A plain-language explanation
We walk through the images with you and explain what the findings mean, what the proposed treatment would do, and what the alternatives are, including doing less.

Our honest conclusion in writing
Whether we agree with the original plan, would modify it, or would do something different. If the first plan was right, we say so, and you can go back and have it done there.
This is not about taking you from your dentist
You keep your general dentist for cleanings, fillings, and crowns. We handle only the surgical portion of care and hand every patient back for restorative work. If you were referred here by a dentist, they receive the same written summary you do.

Brooklyn Periodontics has served Downtown Brooklyn since 2008 and is referral-based: most patients arrive on a dentist's recommendation. Dr. Zidile and Dr. Choi both completed specialty residency in periodontics and implant dentistry at NYU and both teach, at NYU and at area hospitals.
Complex cases, revision surgery, failing implants, and salvage work make up a meaningful share of what we do, including cases sent by other specialists. That is the experience a second opinion is really asking for.

- Is a second opinion on dental implants worth it?
- For large or irreversible treatment, generally yes. Extractions, full-arch reconstruction, and multi-implant cases cannot be undone, and an independent exam either confirms the plan or catches something worth changing.
- Do I need my records to get a second opinion?
- It helps to bring the treatment plan, the quote, and any images, but it is not required. We can evaluate you with our own exam and in-office 3D imaging.
- Will you tell me if my dentist's plan was right?
- Yes. Confirming a correct plan is a legitimate outcome and it happens often. You can then go back and have the treatment done where you started.
- Do I have to switch dentists?
- No. We are a surgical specialty practice and hand every patient back to their own dentist for restorative and routine care.
- Will my dentist know I got a second opinion?
- Only if you want them to. If you were referred to us, we send them a written summary as a matter of course. If you came independently, we share our findings only with your permission.
- How much does a second opinion cost?
- It is a consultation visit, and you are given the fee and any insurance coverage before it is scheduled. There is no obligation to proceed with treatment here.
- Do you review cases from other specialists?
- Yes. Other specialists and general dentists refer complex, revision, and salvage cases to us, including implants they placed themselves.
